Joel Thompson Boone was born on 29 August 1889 in St. Clair, Pa. and received his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1913. After
his graduation he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve Medical Corps and in 1915 was transferred to the Regular Navy. While serving with the U.S. Marines at Vierzy, France on 19 July 1918 he earned
the Medal of Honor. From 1922 to 1933 he served as White House physician to Presidents Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover.
After many other postings he eventually became the Inspector General, U.S. Navy Medical Corps in 1950. He retired from the Navy as a Vice Admiral in 1950 and served as Medical Director of the
Veteran's Administration until 1955. He resided in Washington, D.C. with his wife Helen Koch Boone until his death, on 2 April 1974, and burial at Arlington National Cemetary.

18 August 2022: Campbeltown, Scotland - from the UK Defense Journal... "The former USS Boone, a decommissioned American frigate, has arrived in Scotland and
will soon be sunk as part of an exercise involving missiles being fired from a British frigate. A local source reported that the vessel arrived in Campbeltown in western Scotland today after being
towed to Scotland from Philadelphia in the U. S. Additionally, another source not wishing to be named reported that HMS Westminster will fire at least one Harpoon anti-ship missile at
the former USS Boone, but the ‘SINKEX’ will be run by the Americans as the main aim of the exercise will be to 'test a new US targeting satellite'. The former USS Boone
is currently at Campbeltown’s NATO POL depot, that’s just an acronym for a petroleum, oils and lubricants depot. Built during the 1960s to NATO specification, the depots situated at Garelochhead
(adjacent to the Clyde Naval Base), Loch Striven (near Dunoon), Loch Ewe (in Wester Ross) and Campbeltown provide a mainly maritime fueling facility for visiting UK and NATO vessels".

07 September 2022: the North Atlantic Ocean - A 25 second video depicting the final moments of ex-USS Boone (FFG 28). Ships and aircraft from the United Kingdom and
the United States conducted a long-planned multi-domain sinking exercise (SINKEX) called Atlantic Thunder 22 in the North Atlantic. The ex-Boone was struck by Martlet air-to-surface
missiles from Wildcat helicopters assigned to the Type 23 frigate HMS Westminster. The helicopters provided inaugural laser targeting for fixed-wing U.K Royal Air Force Typhoons using
Paveway IV precision guided munitions. A U.S. Navy P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft assigned to Patrol Squadron 46 shot a long range anti-ship missile. U.S. Air Force F-15E Eagles, assigned to
494th Fighter Squadron, dropped maritime strike joint direct attack munitions. Finally at sea, the U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke guided-missile destroyer USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) struck
the ex-Boone with a Standard Missile 6 (SM-6), the first anti-ship SM-6 engagement in the U.S. European Command area of responsibility, while HMS Westminster fired the first live
RGM-84D Harpoon missile salvo from the U.K. since 2004.
