    Jarrett
78k Vice Admiral Harry Bean Jarrett, USN (1898-1974) had an outstanding career during World War II. He received the Navy Cross for heroism in the Battle of the Coral Sea and served with great valor as a destroyer screen commander for the fast carrier task force operations in the Pacific as well as a bombardment group commander in the Marshall and Marianas campaigns. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for command of his destroyer fire support unit in the Marianas campaign, the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in commanding the destroyer screen for carrier striking the Palaus, the Philippines and the Marianas; and the Bronze Star Medal for heroic actions as Commander Scouting Line for the fast carrier force bound for the raids early in 1945 on Okinawa, Tokyo and Formosa.

Upon the close of World War II, Vice Admiral Jarrett commanded the light cruiser USS Astoria (CL 90); was a member of the staff of the Training Command, U.S. Atlantic Fleet; served as the Plans and Policy Officer (Naval Reserve) under the Chief of Naval Operations, and was Senior Military Attaché, Taiwan, before successively commanding Destroyer Flotilla 4 and Cruiser Flotilla 4. In February 1953, he became the Deputy Inspector General, Navy Department, serving until his retirement in November 1954.

Jarrett retired from active duty on 01 November 1954 after 32 years of service. Due to his combat awards he was advanced to the rank of Vice admiral on the retired list. He settled in Washington and worked for Burton, Dana & Co., a member of the New York Stock Exchange. Later moving to San Diego, California, he died there at age 75 on 09 April 1974. Vice Admiral Harry B. Jarrett was laid to rest with full military honors at the United States Naval Academy Cemetery at Annapolis, Maryland.

USS Jarrett (FFG 33) (1983-2011) was the first ship to be named in his honor.

120k July 2015: New Orleans, La. - A shot of ex-George Philip, ex-Sides and ex-Jarrett await scrapping while chained at the scrapping yard of EMR Southern Scrap near Lake Charles. Unfortunately, we can't tell which ship is which.
From Peter E. Skoutas, ENC, USN, now serving in DDG 69: I wanted to identify the 3 FFG's grouped together on the FFG pages of 12, 14 and 33 (also attached) where it says they can't be identified. If you look at the last picture on the FFG-14 page, it shows 12 and 14 moored together. They are both missing their MK92 fire control radar and 12 is missing the 49 air search radar. So in the picture of the 3 moored together, ex-Jarrett is in the middle because it has the MK92 fire control radar, ex-Sides is to the starboard side of Jarrett because it has it's 49 radar and ex-George Philip is to the port side of Jarrett because it's missing it's 49 radar. So from the left of the pic to the right it's ex-Sides, ex-Jarrett and ex-George Philip.

    Note About Contacts

Contact information is compiled from various sources over a period of time and may, or may not, be correct. Every effort has been
made to list the newest contact. However, our entry is only as good as the latest information that's been sent to us. We list only
a contact for the ship if one has been sent to us. We do NOT have crew lists, rosters, or deck logs available. Please see the
Frequently Asked Questions section on NavSource's Main Page for that information.
