Mr. Riter serves as mobile display officer with Navy Recruiting Command at Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach. The Nevada model was originally used in the 1970 motion picture "Tora! Tora! Tora!" which depicted the infamous 7 Dec. 1941, Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Following filming, Riter rescued the model from a trash bin, and had it restored to it's current condition. Nimitz was the United States signatory to the surrender terms aboard the battleship Missouri (BB-63) in Tokyo Bay, Japan on 2 Sept. 1945, thus ending World War II. Established by the American Battle Monuments Commission, the memorial honors all military veterans of World War II, the citizens on the home front, the nation at large, and the high moral purpose and idealism that motivated the nation's call to arms.
