191k | Arkansas (BB-33) & Wisconsin (BB-64) moored together. It looks like it is at Pearl Harbor, which if so, the only time the two ships were together at Pearl was in early October 1945 as they both were returning to the States at war's end. Both ships were part of the "Magic Carpet" operation staged to bring soldiers, sailors, and marines home from the far-flung battlefronts of the Pacific. Departing Okinawa on 23 September, Wisconsin reached Pearl Harbor on 4 October, remaining there for five days before she pushed on for the west coast on the last leg of her state-side bound voyage. Arkansas made four such trips. |
