Laid down by Federal Shipbuilding, Kearny NJ. June 14 1943.
Launched October 17 1943 and commissioned November 19 1943.
Decommissioned January 15 1947 and recommissioned December 29 1950.
Decommissioned December 16 1963.
Stricken April 1 1965.
Fate Sold January 4 1966 to National Metal & Steel, Terminal Island, CA and broken up for scrap.

-David A. McDermut, a native of New York, was appointed midshipman 8 November 1841 and attained the rank of lieutenant commander 16 July 1862. During the Civil War he served in Potomac and Marion before assuming command of Cayuga 2 December 1862. He commanded Cayuga until 18 April 1863 when he was killed in action against Confederate forces, in Sabine Pass.Robert M. Cieri
