Barbel Class Submarine: Laid down, 3 June 1957, at New York Shipbuilding Corp, Camden, NJ; Launched, 22 November 1958; Commissioned, USS Bonefish (SS-582), 9 July 1959; Decommissioned, 28 September 1988 as a result of an on board fire; Struck from the Naval Register, 28 February 1989; Final Disposition, sold for scrapping, 17 August 1989, by the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service.

The Bonefish is berthed alongside the Frank Cable at Charleston, S.C. after being towed to its home port following an on board fire which disabled the vessel and claimed the lives of three crew members on 24 Apr 1988.
