Sangay Class Ammunition Ship
  • Laid down, 30 October 1941, as SS Cape Sable, a Maritime Commission type (C1-B) hull, under Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 225) at Pennsylvania Shipyards, Inc., Beaumont, TX.
  • Launched, 5 April 1942
  • Acquired by the Navy from the Maritime Commission, 25 November 1942
  • Commissioned, USS Sangay (AE-10), 25 March 1943, CDR. W. D. Ryan in command
  • During WWII USS Sangay was assigned to Asiatic-Pacific Theater and participated in the following campaigns:
    Asiatic-Pacific Campaigns
    Campaign and Dates Campaign and Dates
    Western Caroline Islands operation
    Capture and occupation of southern Palau Islands, Peleliu, 15 to 21 September 1944
    Mine Sweeping operations
    Support of Mine Sweeping, Sasebo, 26 October to 17 January 1946

  • Decommissioned, 20 July 1947, at Orange, TX.
  • Laid up in the Atlantic Reserve Fleet, Texas Group, Orange
  • Custody transferred to the Maritime Administration, 30 June 1960, for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet; Beaumont, TX.
  • Struck from the Naval Register 1 July 1960
  • Final Disposition, sold by the Maritime Administration (MARAD), 19 November 1980, fate unknown
  • USS Sangay received two battle stars for World War II service
