Cape J Class Breakbulk Cargo Ship:
  • Laid down, date unknown, as SS Hawaii a Maritime Administration type (C4-S-1u) hull under Maritime Administration contract (MA 97) at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Newport News, VA.
  • Launched, date unknown
  • Delivered to the Maritime Administration, 16 August 1962, for operation by States Lines
  • Delivered to Moore-McCormack Lines, 3 December 1976, named changed to SS Mormacsaga
  • Reacquired by the Maritime Administration, 19 September 1985, laid up in the National Reserve Reserve Fleet, James River, VA.
  • Upgraded, 7 July 1987, for assignment to the Ready Reserve Fleet (RRF), renamed SS Cape Juby and designated as part of the Maritime Administration Ready Reserve Fleet, (AK-5077)
  • SS Cape Juby (AK-5077) was assigned to a layberth at Wilmington, N.C. as part of the Maritime Administration Ready Reserve Fleet
  • When activated Cape Juby (AK-5077) was assigned to the Military Sealift Command (MSC) as one of the Military Sealift Command's six Modular Cargo Delivery System Ready Reserve Force Ships
  • SS Cape Juby can be activated in 5 days
  • Departed the James River Reserve Fleet, 18 August 1990, for activation at Nor fork shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Norfolk, VA
  • Active for Desert Storm from 28 August 1990 to 16 May 1992
  • Returned to the James River Reserve Fleet, 29 May 1992
  • Departed the Reserve Fleet for deactivation, 31 July 1992
  • Returned to the James River Reserve Fleet, 29 September 1993
  • Withdrawn for activation, 27 September 1994
  • Deactivated, date unknown
  • Removed from MARAD RRF, 1 July 2003, and assigned to the National Defense Reserve Fleet, James River Group, Lee Hall, VA.
