US Army FS-257 (1945 - 1951)

Alhena (AKL-38) never saw active US Navy service, transferred to South Korea
Camano Class Light Cargo Ship:
  • Laid down in 1944 for the US Army at Kewaunee Shipbuilding and Engineering Corp., Kewaunee, WI.
  • Delivered to the US Army as Coastal Freighter FS-257 in 1945
  • Acquired from by the US Navy, 12 December 1951
  • Named Alhena (AKL-38), and loaned to the Republic of Korea that same day
  • Returned to US Naval custody in January 1960
  • Struck from the Naval Register, 1 February 1960
  • Final Disposition, sold for scrapping in June 1960 to Hong Kong Rolling Mills, Ltd.
