  • Laid down, 1 May 1943, as Old Ocean a Maritime Commission type (T1-M-A2) tanker hull, under Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 789), at Todd-Galveston Dry Docks Inc., Galveston, TX.
  • Launched, 1 December 1943
  • Commissioned USS Sakonnet (AOG-61), 20 November 1944, LCDR. Raymond Patrick Le Viness, USNR in command
  • During World War II USS Sakonnet was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater
  • Decommissioned, 26 October 1945
  • Struck from the Naval Register, 13 November 1945
  • Transferred to the Maritime Commission, 30 June 1946, for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Suisun Bay, Benecia, CA.
  • Final Disposition, sold for scrapping, 19 September 1951, to Zidell Machinery and Supply Co., Portland, OR.
