USS Sturgeon Bay (IX-27)


Freighter:
  • Built in 1918 as an Emergency Fleet Corp (design 1007) freighter by Lake & Ocean Navigation Co., Sturgeon Bay, WI.
  • Delivered in November 1918
  • Acquired by the US Navy from the United State Shipping Board (USSB), 24 September 1921
  • Initially assigned to the 9th Naval District (Great Lakes)
  • Transferred to the 3rd Naval District (New York) in June 1922
  • Commissioned USS Sturgeon Bay (IX-27), 7 June 1922, at Norfolk, VA.
  • Turned over to the New York State Naval Militia, on loan, in June 1922, for use as a floating armory at Buffalo, N.Y.
  • Returned to the Commandant, 3rd Naval District for disposal, 30 January 1928
  • Decommissioned and struck from the Naval Register, 7 February 1928
  • Sol,d, 5 march 1928, to Donahue Stratton Co., Milwaukee, WI.
  • Final Disposition, fate unknown
