Two-masted Auxiliary Schooner: Built in 1921, official number 22125, at Hodgdon Brothers, East Boothbay, ME.; Acquired by the US Navy in May 1941; Commissioned, USS Bowdoin (IX-50), 16 June 1941; Decommissioned, 16 December 1943; Struck from the Naval Register in May 1944; Sold by the US Government in 1945; Disposition, currently in use as a sail training vessel at Maine Maritime Academy, Castine, ME., owned by the Schooner Bowdoin Association, Inc. Specifications: Displacement 66 t.; Length 88'; Beam 20' 2"'; Draft 9' 4"; Propulsion, sail, 2,900 square feet of canvas, with an auxiliary 190-h.p. Cummings diesel engine, single propeller.
