SS Diamond State (ACS-7)


Keystone State Class Crane Ship):
  • Laid down, 22 November 1960, as the container ship, SS Japan Mail, a Maritime Administration type (C6-S-1aq) hull, under Maritime Administration contract (MA 87) at Todd Shipbuilding, Los Angeles, CA.
  • Launched, 8 August 1961
  • Delivered to the Maritime Administration, 19 April 1962
  • Renamed SS President Truman, date unknown
  • Converted to a Crane Ship, date and place unknown
  • Assigned by the Maritime Administration to the Ready Reserve Force, (RRF), under operation control of the Military Sealift Command (MSC)
  • Placed in service as SS Diamond State (ACS-7), 22 February 1989
  • SS Diamond State (ACS-7) is one the 10 Crane Ships in the Surge Force
  • SS Diamond State was berthed at New Orleans, LA. and assigned to Maritime Prepositioning Ship Squadron Three and was maintained in a five-day readiness status (ROS 5)
  • Removed from MSC control, withdrawn from the RRF by reassignment to the National Defense Reserve Fleet, 28 July 2006
  • Laid up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet Beaumont, TX.
