Screw Tug:
  • Built in 1862 as the screw tug Governor at New York
  • Launched, date unknown
  • Purchased for the navy by RADM H Paulding at New York from Rufus C. Palmer et al, 17 September 1863
  • Commissioned USS Camelia, 28 November 1863. Acting Ensign R. W. Parker in command the next day.
  • Camelia served in the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron off Charleston, S.C. and at Port Royal, S.C, from 21 January 1864 to 1 July 1865
  • In addition to blockade duty Camelia contributed officers and men to the naval brigade which carried out successful operations ashore in the Broad River area of South Carolina in November and December 1864
  • Returning to New York, the tug was decommissioned and sold there 15 August 1865
  • Final Disposition, fate unknown
