Screw Steamer:
  • Built in 1863 by S. H. Pook, Fair Haven, CT., as the screw steamer Admiral
  • Launched, date unknown
  • Purchase for the Navy, 8 January 1864, by RADM. Gregory from George Griswold for $175,000
  • Commissioned, USS Admiral, 5 February 1864, Acting Volunteer Lieutenant W. B. Eaton in command
  • Renamed USS Fort Morgan, 1 September 1864.
  • Assigned as a storeship for the ships of the Gulf Blockading Squadrons, USS Fort Morgan sailed from New York and other east coast ports with provisions, munitions, passengers, and general stores for ships on station between Key West and Galveston
  • Several times while making passage from one port to another on this duty she gave chase to blockade runners, capturing steamer Ysabel out of Havana, 28 May 1864, and two small schooners in November
  • Decommissioned at New York, 22 August 1865
  • Sold at public auction, 5 September 1865, New York, N.Y.
  • Final Disposition, fate unknown
