Steam Tug:
  • Built in 1862 as the steam screw tug Monitor by Eden Landing, San Francisco, CA.
  • Launched, date unknown
  • Purchased for the Navy by COMO. Selfidge, 20 April 1863, from William Mighell for $15,000 in gold
  • Placed in service as Monterey, 18 May 1863
  • Monterey was the first tug permanently assigned to Mare Island Navy Yard
  • She served the Navy at that base for nearly three decades, operating in and around Mare Island and San Francisco Bay, towing ships and barges during the shipyard's years of development into one of America's largest shipbuilding centers
  • Renamed Ivy, 3 January 1891
  • Placed out of service, date unknown
  • Struck from the Naval Register, 7 October 1892,
  • Final Disposition, scrapped
