  • Purchased by the Federal Navy, 9 December 1863, at New York
  • Commissioned, USS Cactus, Acting Master N. Graham in command
  • During the Civil War USS Cactus was assigned to the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron
  • Served as a supply ship and tender in Hampton Roads until 28 May 1864
  • While assigned to guard Army Communications on York River, engaged Confederate batteries along the Pamunkey River
  • Returned to Hampton Roads, 23 June1864 to April 1865
  • Reassigned to the Potomac Flotilla April 1865
  • Decommissioned, 8 June 1865, at Washington Navy Yard
  • Transferred to the Light House Board, 20 June 1865
  • Final Disposition, fate unknown
