Whaler:
  • Built as the wooden-hulled whaling ship William Badger, date and location unknown
  • Purchased by the US Navy, 18 May 1861, and placed in service, Act. Ensign Samuel G. Swain, in officer in charge
  • William Badger was assigned as a stationary supply ship at Hampton Roads for the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron
  • Towed in July 1862 to the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron base at Beaufort, N.C.
  • Placed out of service and sold, 17 October 1865, at auction at Beaufort to a CAPT. James Abel
  • Final Disposition, broken up shortly after being sold to CAPT. Abel
