  • Purchased by the US Navy, 7 September 1861, from W. B. Thomas and Co. N.Y. for service as a storeship
  • Commissioned, USS Courier, 17 September 1861, Acting Master W. K. Cressy in command
  • During the Civil War USS Courier re-provisioned the ships at Port Royal, S. C. as well as those along the Florida Coast and in the Gulf of Mexico
  • During her service Courier captured three blockade runners; Angelina and Emeline, 16 May 1863, and Maria Bishop, 17 May 1863.
  • Final Disposition, grounded on Abaco Island in the Bahamas 14 June 1864 and abandoned
