Ironclad Ram:
  • Built in 1862 at Columbus, GA. as Muscogee
  • Launched, December 1864
  • Name changed to Jackson, date unknown
  • Columbus Naval Iron Works supplied all the machinery installed aboard Jackson
  • Commissioned CSS Jackson, 22 December 1864
  • Delays in her completion prevented her from entering active Naval service and engaging elements of the Union Blockade of the Confederacy
  • On 16 April 1865, while still needing fitting out, Jackson was set ablaze, then scuttled by the Union's Wilson's Raiders during the Battle of Columbus
  • CSS Jackson's remains were raised a century later, during the early 1960s from the Chattahoochee River, her surviving below-the- waterline hull was then placed on exhibit at the National Civil War Museum at Columbus

    Muscogee 89k The incomplete Confederate Ironclad ram Muscogee (also known as CSS Jackson) shortly after her launching at Columbus, GA., circa December 1864. She was burned on the Chattahoochee River by Union Army forces in April 1865.

    Muscogee 89k Muscogee's hull on exhibit at the Confederate Naval Museum, Columbus, GA., circa mid-1960s. She was launched at Columbus in December 1864, and destroyed by Union troops on 16 April 1865, while incomplete. Her hull was recovered during the 1960s.
