Artemis Class Attack Cargo Ship:
  • Laid down, 26 April 1945, as a Maritime Commission type (S4-SE2-BE1) hull, under Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 1911), at Welsh-Kaiser Co. Providence R.I.
  • Launched, 16 June 1945
  • Commissioned USS Veritas (AKA-50), 19 July 1945, LCDR. Albert S. Brooks, USNR, in command
  • During World War II USS Veritas was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater
  • Decommissioned, 21 February 1946 at Norfolk VA.
  • Struck from the Naval Register, 12 April 1946
  • Returned to the Maritime Commission, 29 June 1946, for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet James River Group, Lee Hall, VA.
  • Final Disposition, sold for scrapping, 16 November 1966, to Union Metals and Alloys Corp (PD-X-742) for $63,247.00. Removed 9 December 1966. Scrapping completed 10 July 1967
