  • Laid down, 30 October 1944, at Commercial Iron Works, Portland OR.
  • Launched, 30 November 1944
  • Commissioned USS LCS(L)(3)-85, 9 December 1944, ENS. Craig E. Randall, in command
  • During World War II USS LCS(L)-85 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and participated in the following campaign:
    Asiatic-Pacific Campaign
    Campaign and Dates
    Okinawa Gunto operation
    Assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto, 17 April to 39 June 1945
  • Following World War II USS LCS(L)-85 performed occupation duty in the Far East
  • Decommissioned, 9 July 1946
  • Laid up in the Pacific Reserve Fleet, Tongue Point, Astoria, OR.
  • Redesignated Landing Ship Support Large USS LSSL-85, 28 February 1949
  • Transferred on loan to Japan, 30 May 1953, named JDS Tsuta
  • Returned to US custody, 31 March 1959 and struck from the Naval Register
  • Final Disposition, sunk as a target, 14 June 1960 off the coast of Oshima, Japan by USS Renshaw (DDE-499)
