PART VIII (B) - The following recommendations are set forth:

    1. LSM(R)'s should be used more frequently for rocket harassing and patrol of enemy beaches, prior to an attack.

    2. LSM(R)'s should not be used as fire support ships for radar pickets against enemy aircraft.

    3. The lack of maintenance facilities for Mark 14 sights, their extreme fragility under normal operating conditions. and their apparent inability to withstand the 5"/38 concussion affect are serious problems. In addition, since the speed, rolling and pitching characteristics of ships of this type make the best operation of the Mk 14 sight inadequate is recommended that Mkt 14 sights not be installed on LSM s.
