Index

General Purpose Amphibious Assault ships are designed to put troops on hostile shores. LHAs serve as the primary landing ships for assault operations of Marine expeditionary units. Assaults are carried out by landing craft and helicopters. The LHA also has a secondary role for ground support using AV-8B Harrier aircraft and anti-submarine warfare using helicopters.
