CAPT Larry G. McCullen, USN
Commanding Officer

Captain Larry G. McCullen was born in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1984 serving as a Rescue Swimmer and Anti-submarine Warfare Operator during his first two tours of duty at Helicopter Anti-submarine Squadron SEVEN (HS-7) and Patrol Squadron FIFTY-SIX (VP-56) in Jacksonville, Florida. Captain McCullen received his commission from the Aviation Officer Candidate School (AOCS) in July 1992 and was designated a Naval Aviator in December 1994.

His operational tours include: Executive Officer, USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) 2015-2017; Commanding Officer, Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron SEVEN (HS-7) 2008-2011; Department Head, Helicopter Anti¬submarine Squadron SEVEN (HS-7) from 2003-2005; Commander United States SECOND Fleet from 2001-2003; and Helicopter Anti-submarine Squadron FIVE (HS-5) from 1996-1998. He completed five major deployments at sea in USS John F. Kennedy (CVN 79), USS George Washington (CVN 73), USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), and USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) (2). Captain McCullen has logged more than 3,100 flight hours.

Captain McCullen's shore and staff tours include: Naval Flight Instructor, Fixed Wing Training Squadron TWO (VT-2), NAS Whiting Field, Florida; Executive Assistant to the Commander, Joint Functional Component Command, Global Strike and Integration, United States Strategic Command, Offutt AFB, Nebraska; and Special Assistant to the CNO for Joint Matters, in Arlington, Virginia. He graduated with honors earning a Bachelor of Science in Secondary and Post Secondary Education from the Southern Illinois University in 1991, completed the United States Air Force, Air Command and Staff College in 2007, and graduated with honors from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a Master of Aeronautical Science in 2008 and completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase II in August 2014.

Captain McCullen's awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Strike Flight Air Medal (one award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and the Navy Good Conduct Medal (two awards).
