USS Green Bay (LPD-20)


CAPT. Thomas E. Shultz USN
Commanding Officer

Captain Tom Shultz is a native of El Cajon, CA and was commissioned in July 1994 after completing the NROTC program at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a Surface Warfare Officer.

Captain Shultz’ sea duty assignments include Weapons, Deck, Supply Officer in USS MONSOON (PC 4), Auxiliaries Officer and Main Propulsion Assistant in USS SIDES (FFG 14), Chief Engineer in USS MOBILE BAY (CG 53), and Chief Staff Officer Destroyer Squadron SEVEN. His command at sea tours include command in USS PATRIOT (MCM 7), commissioning Commanding Officer in USS MICHAEL MURPHY (DDG 112), and as Commander, Patrol Coastal Squadron ONE, ISIC for ten Forward Deployed Patrol Coastal Class Ships in Bahrain.

Ashore, Captain Shultz attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, where he earned a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He also served as the Flag Lieutenant for Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, and as the Integration and Force Structure Branch Head for the Director, OPNAV N81, Assessments Division.

After serving as the Executive Officer, Captain Shultz assumed command in USS GREEN BAY (LPD 20), homeported in Sasebo, Japan, in December 2017.

His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, three Meritorious Service Medals and various campaign and unit awards.
