USS Germantown (LSD-42)


CDR. Antonio D. Hull, USN
A native of Savannah, Georgia, Commander Hull enlisted in the Navy in 1987 and attended the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) program. Upon completion of BOOST he attended Savannah State University, graduating in March of 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.

His sea duty assignments include Auxiliaries and CIC Officer in USS GUNSTON HALL (LSD 44); Pre-Commissioning Auxiliaries Officer in USS BATAAN (LHD 5); Operations Officer in USS CARTER HALL (LSD 50). Additionally, he served on the Staff of Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan, as the Fleet Maintenance Officer (N43) and Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistics. From December 2001 to May 2003 Commander Hull commanded USS TORNADO (PC 14). As the second Commanding Officer of TORNADO, he led her on her maiden deployment, a Maritime Homeland Security (MHLS) Deployment in support of Operation NOBLE EAGLE. TORNADO conducted numerous MHLS patrols and participated in Operations GUARDING LIBERTY and LIBERTY SHIELD. TORNADO also earned the BATTLE “E” and TYCOM Safety Awards. Commander Hull’s most recent sea duty assignment was as Commanding Officer, MHC CREW EXCEL, embarked in USS PELICAN (MHC 53) and USS BLACK HAWK (MHC 58). During this tour Commander Hull participated in several exercises and assisted in the training of foreign naval personnel in support of the Foreign Military Sales Program. Commander Hull decommissioned USS BLACK HAWK on 1 December 2007 and then served as interim Deputy Commander of the Mine Counter Measures Class Squadron and Chief Staff Officer for Mine Counter Measures Squadron TWO in Ingleside, Texas.

Commander Hull’s most recent shore assignment was at the Naval Personnel Command (PERS 41) where he served as Branch Head for Surface Warfare Placement. Additionally, he served at the Surface Warfare Officers School in Newport, Rhode Island as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Command Training. After only seven months into his tour he answered the call of the sea and terminated his shore duty to attend the Department Head Training Course. Upon graduation he was among the first of the Department Head Course graduates to attend a selected portion of the U.S. Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia. Commander Hull attended the Naval War College, earning a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies and Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I. He also attended the Navy Corporate Business Course at Darden Business School located at the University of Virginia.

Commander Hull’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), and various unit and service awards.
