LCI-1 Class Landing Craft Infantry (Large):
  • Laid down in December 1942, at New Jersey Shipbuilding Co., Barber, N.J.
  • Launched in December 1942
  • Transferred to the United Kingdom under terms of the Lend-Lease Act, commissioned HM LCI(L)-255, 5 January 1943
  • Transferred to the Canadian Navy, commissioned HM LCI(L)-255, 2 March 1944, LT. Harry E. Trenholme RCNVR (Temp.) in command
  • During World War II HM LCI(L)-255 / HMC LCI(L)-255 served in the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater
  • HMC LCI(L)-255 was assigned to the 2nd Canadian LCI Flotilla (Royal Navy Flotilla 264), and participated in the following campaign:
    Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign
    Campaign and Dates
    Invasion of Normandy, 6 to 25 June 1944

  • Decommissioned by the Canadian Navy, 12 September 1944 and returned to Royal Navy custody
  • Returned to US Naval custody, 10 December 1946
  • Struck from the Naval Register, date unknown
  • Transferred to the State Department for disposal
  • Final Disposition, sold in November 1947, fate unknown
