Left to right Bob Kane, Ltjg. Stanley Hudgins CO LCI(G)-471, Paul B. Murphy, Ens. L.M. Hermes, and Dave Hardy. At Iwo Jima 17 February 1945 Ens. Hermes bent down to pick up something off the deck when a piece of shrapnel flew over his head. It hit the conning tower and rattled to the ground. He picked it up and kept it. Now August of 2004 he still has it.
