LST-890


511-Class Tank Landing Ship: Laid down, 10 September 1944 at Dravo Corp., Pittsburg, PA.; Launched, 21 October 1944; Commissioned USS LST-890, 24 November 1944. During World War II, LST-890 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater and participated in the assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto from April through June 1945. Following the war, LST-890 performed occupation duty in the Far East until mid-October 1945. Decommissioned, 24 May 1946; Struck from the Naval Register, 3 July 1946; Final disposition, sold, 10 June 1948, to Kaiser Co., Inc., Vancouver, WA., for scrapping. LST-390 earned one battle star for World War 11 service.

Specifications: Displacement 1,625 t.(fl), 3,640 t.(fl); Length 328'; Beam 50'; Draft unloaded, bow 2' 4" stern 7' 6", loaded bow 8' 2" stern 14' 1"; Speed 12k.; Complement 8-10 Officers, 89-100 Enlisted; Troop Capacity, approx. 130 officers and enlisted; Boats, 2 LCVP; Armament; two twin 40mm gun mounts, four single 40mm gun mounts, twelve 20mm guns; Propulsion, 2 General Motors 12-567 diesel engines, two shafts, twin rudders.
