  • Delivered in three sections, 5 November 1942, for trans-shipping to Mare Island Navy Yard, Vallejo, CA. for assembly
  • Launched at Mare Island Navy Yard, 21 November 1942
  • Placed in service, date unknown, ENS. R. E. Bales USNR Officer in Charge (May 1945)
  • During World War II LCT(5)-173 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater:
    LCT Flotilla Fourteen, LCDR. A . Z. Kouri, USNR;
    LCT Group Forty-One, LT. G. P. Franklin, USNR; and participated in the following campaign:

    Asiatic-Pacific Campaign
    Campaign and Dates
    Eastern New Guinea operation
    Lae occupation, 4, and 12 to 13 September 1943
  • LCT(5)-173 also serviced in Australia in 1943 and Ulithi and Peleliu in November 1944
  • Placed out of service, date unknown
  • LCT(5)-173 earned one battle star for World War II service
