BAM-20 was built for Great Britain.

BAM-1/Auk Class Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 15 January 1943 as BAM-20 by the Savannah Machine and Foundry Co., Savannah, GA
  • Launched 24 May 1943
  • Transferred to Great Britain and named HMS Magic (J 400), 22 October 1943
  • Completed 25 October 1943
  • Sunk off Normandy, France 6 July 1944 by a German human torpedo (Neger)
  • Struck from the Navy Register 22 August 1944.

  • Length 221' 3"
  • Beam 32'
  • Draft 10' 9"
  • Speed 18 kts.
  • Complement 105
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two twin 40mm gun mounts, two 20mm gun mounts, two depth charge tracks, and five depth charge projectors
  • Propulsion: Two 1,710shp Cooper Bessemer GSB-8 diesel engines, National Supply Co. single reduction gear, two shafts.
