Algerine Class Minesweeper: Laid down 8 February 1943 as AM-339 by Toronto Shipbuilding, Ltd., Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Renamed Redfern Construction Company in August 1943); Launched 8 July 1943; U.S. Navy contract canceled 20 December 1943; Contract taken over by Royal Navy and completed 4 April 1944 on an unspecified basis as HMS Welfare (J 356); Reclassified M-356; Scrapped in November 1957.
Specifications: Displacement 850 t.; Length 225'; Beam 35' 6"; Draft 8' 6"; Speed 16.5 kts; Complement 85; Armament one 4" and eight 20mm mounts; Propulsion verticle triple expansion, reciprocating steam engine, two shafts.
