Coastal Minesweeper:

  • Built in 1918 as the Canal Boat, Walter C. Witherbee at Ira S. Bushey and Sons, Inc., Brooklyn NY
  • Renamed R. Lenahan
  • Placed in service as USS Chanticleer (AMc 60), 5 April 1941 but never converted to a minesweeper
  • Reclassified as a Covered Lighter, YF-381, 1 May 1941
  • Conversion to a covered lighter canceled in January 1942
  • Sold for scrap in January 1943.
