AMS-85 was built for France

Adjutant Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down in 1952 as AMS-85 by Stephen Brothers, Inc., Stockton, CA
  • Launched in 1953
  • Completed 30 November 1953 and transferred to France as Giroflée (M 677)
  • Commissioned 1 June 1954
  • Reclassified by U.S. Navy as a Coastal Minesweeper, MSC-85, 7 February 1955
  • Decommissioned 2 November 1977 and struck from the Naval Register
  • Sold 19 September 1980
  • Scrapped in 1981.

  • Length 144'
  • Beam 27'
  • Draft 9'
  • Speed 14 kts.
  • Complement 40
  • Armament: Two twin 20-mm mounts
  • Propulsion: Two General Motors diesel engines, two shafts.
