MSC-172 Class Coastal Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 10 August 1954 as AMS-182 by Haarlemse Scheepsbouwd Maatschappij, Haarlem, The Netherlands under the off-shore procurement plan of the Mutual Defense Assistance Program (MDAP) and based on the
    design of the British "Ton" Class Coastal Minesweeper
  • Reclassified by U. S. Navy as a Coastal Minesweeper, MSC-182, 7 February 1955
  • Launched 28 November 1956
  • Completed 10 March 1957
  • Commissioned Woerden (M 820), 24 April 1957
  • Converted to a Diving Ship in 1962
  • Placed out of service in 1990
  • Struck from the Naval Register in 1991 and sold to the Curacao Sea Aquarium in Willemstad, Curacao, Netherlands Antilles.

    Being placed in commission
    Because Woerden was the last ship that was built with U.S. funds under the MDAP she was commissioned USS Woerden (MSC 182) for a few minutes (not offically). Then the American flag was lowered and she was commissioned Woerden (M 820).
