Falcon Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • The fourth Peacock was laid down 29 January 1953 as AMS-198 by the Harbor Boat Building Co., Terminal Island, CA
  • Launched 19 June 1954
  • Reclassified as a Coastal Minesweeper, MSC-198, 7 February 1955
  • Commissioned USS Peacock (MSC 198), 16 March 1955
  • Decommissioned sometime between March 1971 and January 1972 and placed in service as a Naval Reserve training ship at Long Beach, CA
  • Placed out of service and struck from the Naval Register 1 July 1975
  • Sold for scrap 1 September 1976.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 362 t.
  • Length 144' 3"
  • Beam 27' 2"
  • Draft 12'
  • Speed 13.6 kts.
  • Complement 40
  • Armament: One twin 20mm mount
  • Propulsion: Two 600shp Packard diesel engines, two shafts.
