  • Laid down at Manfalcone, Italy as Motor Minesweeper, AMS-240 under the off-shore procurement plan of the Military Defense Assistance Pact
  • Reclassified by U. S. Navy as a Coastal Minesweeper, MSC-240, 7 February 1955
  • Completed 15 April 1957 and named Sandalo (M 5527)
  • Scrapped at La Spezia, Italy.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 380 t.
  • Length 145' 5"
  • Beam 27'
  • Draft 8' 5"
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 48
  • Armament: Two 20mm mounts
  • Propulsion: Two 2,000shp Mercedes-Benz diesel engines, two shafts.
