AMS-251 was built in France.

AMS-172 Class Motor Minesweeper: Laid down in 1954 as AMS-251 by At. and Ch. de Seine, France under the off-shore procurement plan of the Military Defense Assistance Pact; Launched 12 January 1955; Reclassified by U.S. Navy as a Coastal Minesweeper, MSC-251, 7 February 1955; Completed 29 March 1955; Commissioned Sagittaire (M 743), 15 July 1955; Reclassified as a Patrol Vessel, P-743, 1 July 1976; Decommissioned in 1979; Scrapped in July 1981. Fate unknown.

Specifications: Displacement 375 t.; Length 144'; Beam 27'; Draft 8' 3"; Speed 14 kts; Complement 39; Armament one 20mm; Propulsion 880 shp General Motors diesel engines, two shafts.
