AMS-254 Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down in January 1955 as Motor Minesweeper, AMS-254 by Felix Amyot, Cherbourg, France under the off-shore procurement plan of the Military Defense Assistance Pact
  • Reclassified by U. S. Navy as a Coastal Minesweeper, MSC-254, 7 February 1955
  • Launched 21 December 1957
  • Completed 9 May 1958 and named Mercure (M 765)
  • Commissioned 20 December 1958
  • Reclassified P-765, 19 December 1980
  • Decommissioned 30 August 1990
  • Scrapped in 1992.

  • Displacement 380 t.
  • Length 145' 5"
  • Beam 27'
  • Draft 8' 5"
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 48
  • Armament: Two 20mm mounts
  • Propulsion: 4,000shp Mercedes-Benz diesel engines, two shafts.
