MSC-218 Class Coastal Minesweeper: Laid down as Motor Minesweeper, AMS-258 by Stephens Brothers Inc., Stockton, CA; Reclassified by U. S. Navy as a Coastal Minesweeper, MSC-258, 7 February 1955; Completed 28 January 1957 and transferred to Japan; Commissioned Toshima (MSC 654), 1 February 1957; Reclassified YAS-61, 2 July 1973; Decommissioned 20 March 1978 and struck from the Naval Register. Fate unknown.
Specifications: Displacement 375 t.; Length 144'; Beam 27'; Draft 8' 3"; Speed 14 kts; Complement 39; Armament one 20mm; Propulsion two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
