Antelope served both the U. S. Navy and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Asheville Class Gunboat:

  • Laid down, 1 June 1965 by the Tacoma Boatbuilding Co., Tacoma, WA as PGM-86
  • Launched, 18 June 1966
  • Reclassified as a Patrol Gunboat, PG-86, 28 March 1967
  • Commissioned USS Antelope (PG-86), 4 November 1967
  • Decommissioned and struck from the Naval Register 1 October 1977 at the Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, VA
  • Transferred to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 17 January 1978 and placed in service as an Ocean Survey Vessel
  • Renamed Peter W. Anderson in June 1985
  • Operated by the Metson Marine Services under contract to the EPA
  • Fate unknown.

  • Propulsion: Two 12 cyl. 725hp Cummins diesels engines, one 13,300shp General Electric model 7 LM 1500 gas turbine engine, two shafts,two controllable pitch propellers.

    Antelope 189k Antelope and HS Aiolos (Greek MTB) nested together inside a cave on the coast of Crete, during bi-lateral operations 9 - 15 June 1973. HS Kastor is just ahead of Aiolos. The three ships operated together in conducting simulated attacks on an "enemy" convoy.
