Avenger 66k The mine countermeasure ship USS Avenger (MCM-1) is docked at a pier in Norfolk, VA prior to being positioned aboard the submerged deck of the Dutch heavy lift ship SUPER SERVANT 3, 19 August 1990. The SUPER SERVANT 3 transported the Avenger and several ocean minesweepers to the Persian Gulf in response to Iraq`s invasion of Kuwait.

Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships: Avenger (MCM-1)-the lead ship in a new class of coastal minehunter-was laid down on 3 June 1983 at Sturgeon Bay, Wis., by the Peterson Shipbuilding Co.; launched on 15 June 1985; sponsored by Mrs. Sybil B. Stockdale; and commissioned on 12 September 1987, Comdr. Robert S. Rawls in command.
