YMS-27 served the Navies of the United States and France.

YMS-1 Class Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 24 December 1941 as YMS-27 by the Greenport Basin and Construction Co., Greenport, Long Island, NY
  • Launched 7 March 1942
  • Completed 30 June 1942
  • Conducted her shakedown cruise escorting a floating drydock to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Eventually returning to the Newport News/Hampton Roads marshalling area for the amphibious invasion of North Africa. Deployed
    with American forces from Oran to Tunis and Bizerte. Participated in the landings on Sicily. During the invasion of Salerno, the ship's responsibility consisted of laying a smoke screen for the protection of the cruisers in
    deeper water. Took part in Operation Husky, the invasion of southern France
  • Transferred to France 9 October 1944 and named Hortensia (D 333)
  • Sold to France 21 March 1949
  • Struck from the Naval Register 28 April 1949
  • Reclassified D-19 and M-659
  • Decommissioned 8 March 1961
  • Fate unknown.
