YMS-1 Class Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 29 June 1942 as YMS-156 by the Burger Boat Co., Manitowoc, WI
  • Launched 12 November 1942
  • Completed 13 March 1943
  • Transferred to Great Britian 26 March 1943 and reclassified HMS J-956
  • Reclassified HMS BYMS-2156
  • Returned to U.S. custody 10 April 1946
  • Transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission in March 1947, loaned to The Netherlands and named HNLMS Texelstroom (M 836)
  • Returned to U.S. custody 27 July 1947
  • Struck from the Naval Register 16 September 1947 and permanently transferred to Holland
  • Reclassified as a Diving Vessel, MV-39 in 1957
  • Scrapped in 1976.

  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.

  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts, and two depth charge projectors
