BYMS-1 was built for Great Britain.

BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 24 July 1941 as BYMS-1 by the American Car and Foundry Co., Wilmington, DE
  • Launched 17 March 1942
  • Completed 30 May 1942, transferred to Great Britain and named HMS J-801
  • Renamed HMS BYMS-2001
  • Returned to U.S. custody 10 December 1946
  • Sold in June 1948
  • Fate unknown.

  • Displacement 270 t.
  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts and two depth charge projectors
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
