BYMS-2002 served the Royal Navy and Greek Customs

BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 29 August 1941 as BYMS-4 by the American Car and Foundry Co., Wilmington, DE
  • Launched 18 June 1942
  • Completed, transferred to Great Britain 1 August 1942 and reclassified HMS J-804
  • Reclassified HMS BYMS-2004
  • Returned to U.S. custody 1 September 1947 and sold to Greek Customs for use as a contraband chaser
    Naval Vessel Register of 1 January 1949 lists transfer to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission in August 1947
  • Fate unknown.

  • Displacement 270 t.
  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
