BYMS-2035 served the Navies of Great Britain and Egypt

BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper

  • Laid down 7 September 1942 as BYMS-35 by the American Car and Foundry Co., Wilmington, DE
  • Launched 24 June 1943
  • Completed 13 August 1943
  • Transferred to Great Britain and commissioned HM J-835, 14 August 1943
  • Renamed HM BYMS-2035
  • Transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission in August 1947, sold to Egypt and named Malek Fuad
  • Returned to U.S. custody 21 October 1947
  • Scrapped in 1970.

  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts and two depth charge projectors
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
