BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 14 May 1942 as BYMS-38 by Barbour Boat Works, New Bern, NC
  • Launched 30 September 1942
  • Completed 14 April 1943
  • Transferred to Great Britain 20 April 1943 and named HMS J-838
  • Renamed HMS BYMS-2038
  • Returned to U.S. custody 10 April 1946, loaned to The Netherlands and renamed Marsdiep (MV 36)
  • Sold to The Netherlands 27 July 1947
  • Reclassified MV-24 and M-834
  • Struck from the U.S. Navy Register in 1956
  • Reclassified A-906 in 1952
  • Withdrawn from service in 1962
  • Fate unknown.

  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts and two depth chage projectors
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
