BYMS-47 served the Navies of Great Britain and Finland.

BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 23 April 1942 as BYMS-47 by Gibbs Corp., Jacksonville, FL
  • Launched 8 August 1942
  • Completed 9 February 1943
  • Transferred to Great Britain 9 March 1943 and named HMS J-847
  • Renamed HMS BYMS-2047
  • Transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission 5 May 1948; sold to Finland and named Katanpää
  • Returned to U.S. custody 19 May 1948 (on paper only)
  • Fate unknown.

  • Displacement 270 t.
  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm, and two depth charge projectiles
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
